The Emerald Warriors RFC was formed in August 2003 to provide an open and inclusive environment to play rugby. The club offers the opportunity to play competitive rugby in Ireland and internationally. At present the club has over 50 members, comprised of players, pavilions and alumni.
The Emerald Warriors vision is to be, the leading LGBTI inclusive rugby club (In the world), leading by example and achieving success at home and abroad, both on and off the pitch.
The Emerald Warriors will be hosting The Union Cup which will take place in June 2019 in Dublin’s DCU Sports campus, supported by the IRFU, and welcoming 50 teams from across Europe with an expected 1,500-1,600 attendees.
The Union Cup is a biennial international rugby union tournament for inclusive rugby teams. First hosted in Montpellier in 2005, it has since been hosted by various clubs throughout Europe, that similar to Emerald Warriors RFC, are established within the LGBT community. The tournament has previously been hosted in Copenhagen, London, Amsterdam, Bristol, Brussels and Madrid.
