Summer Draft Tournament returns!

Pioneers in Inclusive Rugby, The Manchester Village Spartans RUFC, are proud to be bringing back this friendly, unique, draft-Style, one-day, Summer Touch Rugby tournament for everyone to enjoy on Saturday June 6th 2020 at the Spartans’ home ground at Sale Sports Club, Cheshire.

This 1-day, fast-paced tournament will be a celebration recognising the efforts put in by Spartans O2 Touch Ambassadors and lots of volunteers from a whole host of IGR UK Clubs across England during the England Rugby and O2 Touch 2019 Summer Pride Tour (a recruitment campaign encouraging greater LGBT participation in Inclusive O2 Touch Rugby).

Everyone is invited regardless of shape, size, sexuality, gender identity or touch rugby ability.

So whether you’re a total novice or expert, nationals O2 Touch pro, if you’re aged 18yrs+ you’re invited to play and bring friends and family of any age to come along and join in the friendly festival spirit.

Players don’t have to be in a team so you can register as individuals or in friendship groups.  Group Discounts are available when buying tickets for 8 or more players in any one transaction.  Please email for the voucher code and more info before making a group booking.

This exciting, ultra-sociable and inclusive event was the first of it’s kind last year and we hope it will be even bigger and better for 2020 – hosted at the Spartans new, purpose-built clubhouse.

Ben Dawson, 02 Touch Operator of the Year 2019, explained, “The easiest way to think of a Summer Touch Rugby Draft Tournament is that it’s like fantasy Football or Fantasy Touch Rugby but it’s played out in real life.”

He continued, “When you book your ticket, we ask you a couple of basic questions about your overall Summer Touch Rugby experience. This gets anonymised and each player is given a “price” that the tournament captains then have to “pay” to assemble their dream teams. They only have set ‘budgets’ so all the captains have to spend wisely and mix their teams up with players of all abilities.”

This, Ben says, creates really well-mixed teams and he believe will lead to a really social and fun competition where everyone gets to compete fairly for the Cup, learn from one-another and create a really friendly buzz.  He adds, “We’ll try to keep small groups of friends together so if you come down as a duo, you don’t get split up and you can have a really good day meeting new people.”

You can find more information at where you can also buy your Early Bird tickets – the price of which includes Lunch.  Early Bird tickets are £15/pp and will be available until May 10th 2020.
